Conversations that matter.
Schools
Sporting Clubs
Gambling is increasingly woven into everyday life — particularly through sport, advertising, social media and the environments young people grow up in.
At Win Within, we believe honest conversations can help people recognise the risks before gambling becomes harmful.
Through lived experience, education and open discussion, Nick Egan shares his personal story of gambling harm and recovery to help young people better understand gambling, recognise warning signs and challenge the idea that gambling is simply a normal part of sport and social life.
School Talks
Real story. Real conversation. Real impact.
Nick’s school talks are built around his own experience and are designed to be relatable, honest and engaging.
Rather than simply telling students what they should or shouldn’t do, Nick shares what gambling looked like in his own life — how it started, how his relationship with gambling changed over time, and the impact it eventually had.
The talks create an opportunity for students to think about the messages they see around them and the way gambling can become normalised through sport, advertising, social media, friends and family.
Topics can include:
Nick’s personal experience with gambling and recovery
How gambling can start as something that feels harmless
Understanding the warning signs and behaviours associated with gambling harm
The influence of sport, advertising and social media
How gambling can become normalised within friendship groups
Understanding the impact gambling can have on finances, relationships and wellbeing
How to recognise when a friend or family member may be struggling
How to start a conversation and where to seek support
Challenging the idea that gambling is simply “part of the game”
Most importantly, the talks encourage students to ask questions and have conversations they may not otherwise feel comfortable having.
Why Schools?
Nick's relationship with gambling began at a young age.
Looking back, he understands how the attitudes and behaviours surrounding gambling can develop long before someone places a bet themselves.
Schools have an important opportunity to create awareness early, challenge the normalisation of gambling and give young people the knowledge to make informed decisions as they grow.
Win Within aims to meet young people where they are — using a personal story they can relate to, rather than relying on statistics or scare tactics.
Beyond The Talk
A Win Within session doesn't have to end when the presentation does.
We encourage schools to use the conversation as a starting point for ongoing discussion and awareness.
Talks can be complemented by discussion, questions and practical resources to help students, staff and school communities continue the conversation after Nick leaves.
We can also work with schools to tailor sessions to their students, year level and existing wellbeing or education programs.
Sporting Clubs & Organisations
Win Within also works with sporting clubs and organisations to open conversations around gambling culture and the relationship between gambling and sport.
With betting increasingly visible around sporting events, young people and adults are regularly exposed to gambling messages through sponsorships, advertising, apps and social media.
Nick's lived experience provides a different perspective — helping clubs and organisations consider the culture they create around gambling and how they can support healthier conversations within their community.
Sessions can be tailored to players, coaches, volunteers, staff, parents or wider club communities.
